Daybeds are an incredibly versatile piece of furniture. You can use them much like you’d use a futon, without having to resort to the hassle of converting the furniture: it’s a sofa one minute and a bed the next, and the use largely depends on what you’re doing with it at the time.

They are a classic piece, since they’ve actually been with us since the Middle Ages. You can expect them to add a touch of old world charm to your home. Truly high-quality models are sturdy and last a long time.

What styles are available?

There are a lot of variations between frames. First, you have to think about materials. Some are made of metal, some are made of wood, and some are made of a mix of materials. Which look and feel will suit your home?

Secondly, you need to think about style. There are literally dozens of styles to choose from, and we invite you to take a look at the selections as above to see all that we have to offer. You can also think about options: will you want a trundle to serve as a second bed, or is storage more important to you? If you don’t need either, you can add a decorative dust ruffle to give the frame a little bit of extra style and charm.

What kind and size of mattress do I need to buy?

All of our models use a standard twin mattress. From there, you can choose any kind of mattress you like. Innerspring mattresses work, but so do memory foam or latex mattresses. We actually recommend upgrading to a quality foam mattress because most use slats or polydecks, rather than box springs, to support the mattress. In this way. A foam mattress is often going to be far more comfortable, both for sitting and sleeping.

From there you’ll want to pay attention to the way that you plan to use this bed. If you intend to sit on it and sleep on it in equal measure then you’ll want a firmer mattress. Otherwise, you’ll have trouble getting comfortable while you watch TV. If this is just going to be an extra guest-bed or reading lounge then you can afford to have a softer mattress.

How can I make my purchase comfortable to sit on?

Some people do find that they have trouble making it comfortable for daytime sitting, simply because it isn’t designed precisely like a sofa is.

We’ve already given you the first tip—choose the right mattress. Since you won’t exactly know what the “right” mattress is until you try it out for yourself you’ll want to come into our Mississauga, ON showroom so you can test the bed and the mattress together.

Secondly, you’may even want to place your frame against a wall for added support. Yes, they already have a back, but the back may not provide your preferred level of stability without the additional support of a wall.

Thirdly, you may want to invest in angled back cushions, preferably back cushions made out of dense foam. Decorative throw pillows may help tie your purchase into your home’s décor, but those back pillows will allow you to relax as you watch television or play video games. The back cushions are easy to remove, and you can simply set them to one side as soon as you’re ready to sleep..
